The Briar Club Opens $34 Million Facility

Only in Houston can a country club without a golf course be this successful. A swim-tennis club, only a few years ago in the shadow of the mainline country clubs, is now the pride of the city.

If most club members don’t play golf today, why should they have a golf club? The vision of The Briar Club was to make itself in every way the equal to the best golf and country clubs in Houston; and do so, they did. From the new 52,000 sq. ft. clubhouse with multiple casual dining outlets, a coffee house, 400-person ballroom with state-of-the-art A/V equipment, Bride’s Room and built-in bars, to the massive outdoor swimming pools, to one of the best health/fitness centers in the club world today, to the extensive tennis facilities, to the 530-car parking structure; there is nothing like The Briar Club in the nation.

During the 54 months of planning and construction, the Club collected almost $11 million in initiation fee revenues from new members. The success of the Club and its project is a tribute to a visionary manager and a succession of Boards who persevered their dream and achieved it. McMahon Group was privileged to have been a part of this fantastic Club’s success.

Today, The Briar Club has 1,300 members in all categories, projected annual gross revenues of $14 million and it enjoys the reputation as an outstanding family private club.
