Lake Naomi Community Center
When the Lake Naomi planned community in the Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania realized the need for a Recreation Center for youth, pre-teen and teen programming, they decided it was time to look at the long-term needs of the entire community. The leadership team also realized they needed a professional consulting firm to assist in this process.
McMahon Community Consultants was retained and went to work to assist the Lake Naomi Community in determining what the current and future needs of the 2,300 lot single family home community were, what a conceptual design of a new facility would look like and cost and how to get approval of the property owners to proceed.
After McMahon convened focus groups and surveyed the Property Owners, it was determined that the Lake Naomi Association would prosper with the creation of a Community Center that served all residents of the community that attracts primarily second home owners from New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.
The 50,000 square foot Community Center includes facilities for every resident starting with a Great Room and Cafe where you can meet up with friends and family, share a cup of coffee with a neighbor, check your phone, use your computer or rehydrate after exercising. Fitness was a huge need and desire identified through the focus group/survey process. Thus, the Community Center includes a full-service fitness center, spinning facility, aerobics studio and locker room facilities.
A large multi-purpose space can be set for tennis, basketball, volleyball or can be used for day camp programming or pre-teen and teen events. Eight activity rooms provide space for every age and every activity imaginable from art classes to craft projects to tiny tot fun to camp programs to mahjong to a golf simulator during the winter months.
An outstanding pool facility provides for lap swimming, competitive swimming, water aerobics and recreational swimming with an attached splash pad. Related facilities include a spa, sauna and steam room for adult usage.
The Lake Naomi Community Center is located on a twenty-nine acre site that includes a walking trail, sports field, activity pavilion, ice skating rink, paddle tennis court, nature center, community garden, archery range and dog park. Ten pickleball courts are currently being planned to be added to the site.
Members at Lake Naomi indicated that they wanted more and they got it. With an outstanding group of community volunteers, the Professional Management Team and McMahon Community Consultants, including Frank Vain, an $8.5 million Community Center was created that has revolutionized usage patterns in the community while at the same time sustaining and positively impacting property values. What more could a planned community ask for?
